As of their 2006 rebrand, any Bruichladdich bottled under this name is unpeated (or nearly so: they maintain a minimal peating level of about 8ppm) in their classic style. This expression maintains the distinctive turquoise matte bottle of the 10-year-old it replaces, but with an ABV of 50% and a special focus on the provenance of its grain (this is made entirely from barley grown in Scotland, which is not the case for all Scotch!), it represents a conscious targeting of the growing connoisseur’s market. It’s a phenomenally light and fresh style (from ex-bourbon barrels), with light straw and sawdust on the nose, a drop or two of lemon juice, and a lovely breath of sea air. There are floral elements on the palate but the focus is on that crisp, sharp barley and the mouth-coating body - you can still taste the green shoots and the golden husks in all their freshness.
