145th Anniversary Event

145th Anniversary Event

After months of careful planning, we were delighted to host our 145th Anniversary Event on the 13th July at Broomhall House!

And what a fantastic evening it was – the cigar makers of the world and the Whisky Barons of Scotland came together for one night only to help us celebrate our anniversary with style.

After a welcome cocktail with some fantastic Adelphi spirits, Our guests were welcomed to Broomhall House by Clanadonia who played some rousing traditional Scottish music in their very unique style.

Over 140 attendees were treated to the finest of drams from Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, Octomore, Douglas Laing, House of McCallum, Glengoyne, Tamdhu, Smokehead, Tullibardine, Dalmore, Camus Cognac, Casa Turrent Tequila, Flor de Cana Rum, Botanist Gin, Edinburgh Gin and (of course) a variety of whiskies from Robert Graham's  own stable – Including our Single Cask Bruichladdich 14 year old, which has been shortlisted as one of 6 finalists in the Speciality Whisky category at the upcoming Scottish Whisky Awards!!

Some fantastic Scottish cuisine was available, lovingly made for the event by ‘Hickory Food’ with a variety of Canapes, finger food and small plates, but also two favourites for me – a mobile ‘Oyster Man’, shucking and dressing oysters for attendees as he meandered through the event, and on such a gorgeous day the vintage Ice Cream stall was very well received, helping all to keep cool!

We were also honoured to have had guests travel from around the globe to join us at our prestigious event, and to be able to spend time with some of the biggest names from the Cigar Industry – Tony Gomez (La Flor Dominicana), Robert Caldwell (Caldwell Cigar co.), Alejandro Turrent (Casa Turrent Cigars), Jonathan Drew (Drew Estate), Tom Lazuka (CLE and Asylum cigars), Wiljo Van Maren (Balmoral Cigars), Steven Kron (NyB and AJF), Thomas Gryson (Oliva Cigars), Roy Sommer (Davidoff Cigars) and Scott Vines (Tor Imports) to name but a few!!

All attendees received a goodie bag, containing 12 cigars (including the first public release of our 145th Anniversary Edition Robustos), a Boveda Butler (to assist in keeping your humidor storage conditions perfect), along with a specially roasted batch of Corojo Coffee just for the event, a selection of whisky miniatures and a spot of light reading in the form of the most recent editions of Whisky Magazine and Cigar Journal.

Entirely based on the outstanding generosity of our guests at the event, between our Charity Auction (curated by the larger-than-life Charles MacLean) and our Charity Raffle, we raised over £8000 for our chosen Charities – Children 1st Scotland, and the Escuela Belen Fe Y Alegria charity in Esteli, Nicaragua.

Special thanks to our Event Partners, who so generously gifted items for Auction – some highlights for me were a fantastic bottle of Douglas Laing Old Particular Whisky, A Signed box of Joya de Nicaragua Numero Uno Diplomatic cigars, a presentation boxed Tullibardine 25 year old and a sealed box of La Flor Dominicana Robustos, rolled in 1999 and handpicked by Tony Gomez from LFD’s private aged stock!!

Thank-you to everyone who attended, and made the evening at Broomhall House such a resounding success – If not for you, our fantastic clientele, such an event would not have been possible!!

Missed out on the big event? Not to worry – We’ve plenty in the works to keep the celebrations going over the next few months:

For starters - we’ve partnered up with some fantastic Whisky brands to offer tastings at our Canongate store throughout this year’s Edinburgh Fringe festival (Tickets available Here), and if you keep an eye on our social media and our newsletters, we’ll be sharing information about some special in-store offers coming up over the summer!!!

Cheers, and here’s to our next 100+ years of trading!

~Simon, Edinburgh Manager.
